The following is a summary of what the resort can do to assist the wedding couple (strictly for non-Muslim foreigners):-
  • Preparation of documents for the legal registration of the marriage (civil ceremony).  It is possible for foreigners to get married in Langkawi.  However, at present there is no appointed Registrar of Marriages for an Christian Church.  As a result, all marriages are conducted at the National Registration Office in Kuah town without any religious rite and ceremony of the Christian religion.
  • Unfortunately, they are not able to perform a legal wedding ceremony at the hotel but we can arrange for a Christian Pastor to do a blessing which we would recommend to be held at the Datai Bay beach front. 
  • They will provide services of a wedding coordinator at no charge

Requirements from you and costs:

  • Two witnesses will be required.  If you do not have friends or relatives to act as your witnesses, the hotel can provide 2 hotel staff to serve as witnesses.
  • The documentation cost is:
    • Commissioner of oath stamp fee is RM 10 nett
    • Special marriage license at RM 110 nett (to be paid to the office of the District Officer)
    • Marriage registration fee is RM 100 nett
    • The hotel will assist to handle these paperwork on your behalf
  • If you decide on proceeding with the legal registration of your marriage in Langkawi, you will need to obtain the necessary documents from your home country.

They will eventually require the following documentation to enable them to proceed with the paperwork :

  1. photostat copies of wedding couple’s passports

  2. photostat copies of wedding couple’s birth certificate (to bring original copies to Langkawi)

  3. 2 photographs of each party (32 mm x 38 mm passport size, coloured but not from an instantmatic camera)

  4. if the couple is unmarried, they must produce the Certificate Of Single Status certified and legally authorised by your government and must be verified and stamped by the High Commission of Malaysia or Embassy in your country. The documents must also be endorsed at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Putrajaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The validity of this document is 3 months to the date of the registration of your marriage.

  5. divorce papers or death certificate of spouse, if applicable

  6. fathers’ names of both parties, complete house address, telephone numbers, occupation and religion (this is required when filling in the marriage registration form)



  • You will need to make 2 trips into Kuah town which is RM 210 nett per trip by car and if you wish to hire a chauffeured-driven car service, the following charges apply:
    • by limo at RM 120 nett per hour (minimum of 3 hours)
    • by car at RM 70 nett per hour (minimum of 3 hours)
    • by van at RM 115 nett per hour (minimum 3 hours for a maximum of 7 persons)
    • Note that all of the rates mentioned above are subject to change without prior notice.

Wedding Document Representative

The resort can arrange a representative to handle your paperwork in Malaysia should you require his assistance, and his fees are as follows:
  • Putrajaya Documentation – RM1,800 nett

As the documents from your home country will require the endorsement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at Wisma Putra in Putrajaya, we can arrange for a representative to represent you at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Putrajaya with all the documents duly stamped and endorsed from your home country and Malaysian High Commission or Embassy in your home country. Should you wish to proceed with this, we would recommend that you courier your endorsed documents to us in advance as this may take a few days.  Please be advised the documents have a validity of 3 months from the date of the registration.

  • Langkawi Documentation and Wedding – RM2,800 nett

When you are already in Langkawi, this package includes the registration fee, commissioner of oath fee, government stamping fee, transportation on oath taking day, transportation on wedding day and transportation cost if the wedding planner is required to travel to Alor Star to obtain documentation approval if the district officer in Langkawi is not available to grant the special wedding license.
